PYLOS is a free game, run by one person for the pleasure of it. These terms are short because there is not much to say.
The game is provided as-is
PYLOS is offered free of charge, as-is and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. There is no guarantee that it will be available, that it will work correctly, or that a game in progress will finish. To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it.
No uptime guarantee
The service may be slow, restarted, taken down for maintenance, or unavailable without notice. Games in progress can be lost when that happens.
Don’t abuse the service
Please do not:
- attack, overload or attempt to break into the service, or probe it for vulnerabilities without asking first;
- run bots, scripts or automated clients against it, or play with engine assistance in rated games;
- interfere with other players’ games, or attempt to manipulate ratings or the leaderboard.
Names and accounts
Choose a display name you would be happy for a stranger to read. Accounts and names that harass, impersonate or abuse other people may be removed, without notice and at the operator’s discretion.
Matchmaking
Quick match looks for another person first. When none is available it may pair you with a computer-controlled opponent rather than leave you waiting indefinitely. Those games are never rated and never affect the leaderboard, which is why the rule above about engine assistance is written about rated games in particular.
Private rooms and pass & play are always the people you invited.
Ratings and the leaderboard
Ratings and the leaderboard are maintained at the operator’s discretion. They may be adjusted, recalculated or reset entirely — for example after a scoring change or to undo manipulation. A rating is a pastime, not property.
Changes to the service
PYLOS may change, gain or lose features, or stop being offered at any time. If these terms change, the date at the top of the page changes with them.
Privacy
What is stored, and for how long, is set out in the privacy policy.
Who runs this, and how to reach them
PYLOS is a personal project, not a company. “The operator” above means the individual who runs this deployment of it and pays for the server — one person, acting in a private capacity. There is no team, no support desk and nobody else with a say in any of the discretion these terms describe.
